Walking into Madras Woodlands Ganga, you’re immediately greeted by a warm, inviting atmosphere that reflects the restaurant’s focus on traditional South Indian cuisine. The decor has a homely feel, making it the perfect spot to sit back, relax, and enjoy a wholesome meal. Whether you're here for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the vibrant dishes and rich flavors are sure to make your visit memorable.

One of the highlights of dining here is the extensive menu that caters to both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The restaurant takes pride in its wide range of dosas, idlis, vadas, and thalis, all made with fresh ingredients and prepared with a level of care that brings out the true essence of Indian flavors. If you're a fan of spice, you’ll appreciate the depth of flavor in every dish, carefully crafted to deliver the perfect balance of heat and richness.

For starters, you can’t go wrong with the crispy, golden dosas. Madras Woodlands Ganga serves an array of dosas, from the classic plain dosa to more elaborate varieties like the masala dosa and the Mysore dosa. The dosas are thin, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside, paired perfectly with coconut chutney and sambar. Another great option is the idli, which is light and fluffy, providing a perfect base to soak up the sambar and chutneys.

But the star of the show is definitely the thali. The South Indian thali at Madras Woodlands Ganga offers a little bit of everything: rice, vegetables, pickles, curries, and curd. The portions are generous, and the flavors are bold and authentic. You can enjoy a perfect blend of spices and textures, from the creamy dal to the tangy sambar, each element of the thali is a reflection of the region’s rich culinary tradition.

If you’re craving something a bit more unique, the restaurant also offers a variety of other regional specialties. The Chettinad chicken curry is a must-try, packed with aromatic spices that deliver a satisfying kick without overwhelming the palate. Another standout dish is the Kothu Parotta, a popular street food made with parotta (a type of flatbread) tossed with vegetables and meat, served with a rich curry on the side. The flavors are intense and will transport you to the streets of Tamil Nadu with each bite.

What’s even better is the service at Madras Woodlands Ganga. The staff are attentive and friendly, ensuring that your dining experience is smooth and enjoyable. The atmosphere is laid-back, making it perfect for families, friends, or even solo diners looking to enjoy a comforting meal.

Reviews from both locals and visitors alike praise the consistency and quality of the food. The reasonable prices and generous portions add to the overall appeal, making it a fantastic option for casual dining or even special occasions.

For dessert, you can indulge in a variety of sweets like payasam (a rice pudding) or the ever-popular gulab jamun. These treats are the perfect end to a satisfying meal, offering just the right amount of sweetness to balance out the spices from the main course.

Whether you’re a long-time lover of South Indian cuisine or a first-timer, Madras Woodlands Ganga offers an experience that captures the essence of the region’s rich culinary heritage. • Visited on a Thursday afternoon & it was fairly crowded! The next visit I might make a reservation beforehand just in case! Nevertheless, the staff (thankfully) had a table for us & welcomed us warmly. We were served welcome drinks & the menu. They have a $8.90 set meal (limited mains to pick from) with soup & tea/coffee which is value for money! Today, I tried the chicken rice, char kway teow, Ganga thali & aloo gobi. The chicken rice was good, I wished the ‘chicken’ was baked/grilled if possible as it was slightly greasy, but the rice & chilli is on point. Brownie points for having black sauce too which is hard to find in veg chicken rice! The kway teow is nice & just the right amount of sweetness, adjust your spice level accordingly by informing the waiter when they take your order! The thali & aloo gobi fared well as well. The waiting time was 15-20 minutes, I would suggest for diners to be patient if possible as the restaurant is serving many guests as well. I love the ambience here! The staff are very warm & friendly and trying to give their best service. The menu is concise but has enough variety for anyone in the family. There are alcoholic drinks too if they are more to your liking! I guess the restaurant has some teething issues in some new areas of their business (fusion food & opening for lunch hours) in addition to their Upp Dickson Branch. Do render your support and I ask of you to be understanding towards the team who are trying their very best to serve you a new concept of vegetarian food. To Team Madras Woodlands Ganga: Great job to you & your team! Will be back again! P.S. They don’t serve buffets anymore so take note

  • This is a slightly atas(upmarket) version of New Woodlands Madras Restaurant which our family has patronized for 27 years. We had the Poori set, plain thosai, ghee thosai and ghee masala thosai which came with a mini vadai. All the dishes were delicious and well executed. The thosai slightly crisp and poori puffed to perfection. Ghee masala thosai was crispy and the filling of potatoes was soft and mildly spiced. The tea was brewed nicely and served with the right amount of milk. The mini vadai was surprisingly good cruncy skin and soft on the inside. They serve cocktails here and I'm definitely going back to try. Another difference from the sister restaurant is that they are banking on serving Fusion cuisine which does include some Chinese dishes.

  • Love the service provided by Jamal. Definitely 5 star plus for his attentive services. I'm glad we had lunch here. Both our meals were served hot and less oily.

  • Wow the food is delicious! The south Indian combo meal is great! The wholesome mix comes with soup and a drink. Tried the Ghee masala dosa for the first time and it was good. But we preferred the Indian combo more due to the great mix of dips it was very well cooked. Must try their masala tea!
